Trail description 

This approximately 10 km section of the European E11 Forest Trail (“Miško takas”) takes travelers through the scenic Nemunas Delta and the Birštonas resort area. The route is characterized by a mix of “wild” forest paths, polished resort walkways, and a series of unique wooden sculptures that line the trail. Key landmarks include the “Druskupis” mineral water evaporation tower , the “Zen Spot” , and Paprienė beach. While the official e-path crosses the Greimų bridge and turns left, the beach is located immediately to the right after crossing. For those seeking adventure, a popular detour near the Ąžuolynė picnic area leads along the unpaved Nemunas riverbank before looping back to the official path. The hike concludes with a recommended stop at Vytautas Hill (Birštonas Mound) for panoramic views.

Trail type

The trail is easy to follow, with official E11/Forest Trail signs guiding hikers along most of the route. Near the mound, the official trail turns onto B. Sruogos Street, although many choose a scenic detour towards the summit to enjoy breathtaking views. 

Along the way, there are several spots to rest and enjoy the surrounding landscape, including Paprienė Beach, the tranquil ‘Zen Spot,’ and the Ąžuolynė picnic and barbecue area. 

Within the Birštonas resort, the trail is well maintained, while the forest and riverbank sections retain a more natural and unspoilt character. The official route is mostly paved and flat, making it easy to walk, but those who venture off the trail, for example along the riverbank near Ąžuolynė, will encounter natural woodland terrain with roots and earth. 

Although most of the trail is gentle and flat, the climb up Vytautas Hill involves a series of wooden steps, making it a rewarding challenge for hikers but not suitable for wheelchair users.
